Want to explore the wonders of the Finnish wilderness in the best way possible? Join us as we spend a week ski-touring the untouched forests.
In a small group we will cross the untouched Finnish wilderness, skiing from 8-18km a day from hut-to-hut. As you gain confidence on the skis we will begin exploring the arctic fjells and earning some of the best views in Lapland. You will complete 6 days of skiing, experience sleeping in remote wilderness cabins, and the possibility to catch the northern lights. Being with an experienced wilderness guide you can spend the evenings learning more about Finnish nature, the art of whittling and how to build the perfect fire. At the end of the week having skied around 100km and experienced some extreme temperatures (which can be as low as -30) you’ll be ready for a celebratory dinner, a nice Finnish sauna and, maybe even an ice dip!

During the trip, we spend the first and final night at our base camp cabin, and the rest of the time we are using the wilderness cabins in the national park. The huts are basic, they have no electricity and include bunks for sleeping in and an outdoor dry toilet.
Please note that since this is a remote wilderness tour, some changes to the itinerary are possible on the location due to weather and similar reasons.
Ready for an adventure?
This is the perfect week-long backcountry adventure for those looking for a proper adventure, not necessarily with any previous experience of nordic or Alpine skiing, but who are looking for a new experience away from the crowds. For this tour you should be in good health, and have a good level of fitness as we will ski about 8-18km a day, with a few climbs involved each day.
If you’re looking for a real wilderness experience or are keen to get the feel of ski touring without getting into terrain that’s too steep or technical. The Finnish Arctic is the perfect destination for both of these.
A proper wilderness adventure.

WHAT SHOULD I PACK?
For some handy tips on what you might want to pack click here
WHERE DO I FLY TO?
The best place is Ivalo Airport (30-minute bus ride away from our starting point) or Rovaniemi Airport which requires you to get a 3.5 hour bus to our starting point. We can help you organise transport from either of these airports to our starting point.
WHAT TIME DO I NEED TO ARRIVE?
There will be a group briefing on the first day of the trip so please plan to arrive for 5pm to our cabin in Kiilopää. Then we have a chance that evening to go through the plan for the week and pack the sleds before heading off the next morning. We spend the first and last night of the trip at our basecamp cabin so you are welcome to leave anything here you don’t wish to take with you on the trip.
WHAT SHOULD MY SKIING ABILITY BE?
If you have some previous experience of downhill or cross-country skiing but have yet to discover the adventure and challenge of a multi-day ski touring expedition then this will be perfect for you. Although the techniques and equipment have much more in common with cross-country skiing than with downhill skiing it helps to have some experience being on skis before.
WHAT IF I'VE NEVER SKIED BEFORE?
Don’t worry the style of skiing we do here in Finland is very unique, not many have done it before. It’s a style of cross-country skiing which we will teach you the basics on the first morning and you will improve as the trip goes on. You just need a good level of fitness and a will to try and learn a new skill.
WHAT WILL THE GROUP SIZE BE?
We keep our groups nice and small, so we run the trips with a maximum of 7.
WHAT IS THE FOOD LIKE?
The food will be basic and homemade, and everything we cook will be vegetarian. We try to use as many natural ingredients as possible and we make sure we give you a taste of local Finnish food. You will be well fed during the trips and we make sure we are providing enough calories to fuel you during our adventure. Please remember we are in the Arctic so we do our best with the options that are available to us. If you have any dietary requirements please let us know beforehand.
DO I NEED TRAVEL INSURANCE?
Yes, travel insurance is a must. It is your responsibility to ensure that you have the appropriate insurance to cover you for all aspects this trip, including cancellation.
CAN I COME ON MY OWN?
Yes, our trips are perfect for solo travellers so this is perfect for you to join like-minded people.
HOW FIT DO I HAVE TO BE?
You need to have a good level of fitness and be used to moving for 5-6 hours a day (so it is ideal for hikers who want to challenge themselves in the Arctic conditions) You will take turns pulling a sled weighing 30kg and skiing from 8-17km a day. Some days are more challenging than others so be ready for an adventure.
